children & families

“Mostly we don’t remember the days,

we remember the moments”

It’s so true. A chubby hand squeezing yours, long fluffy eyelashes, the smell of a baby’s skin. A favourite game or teddy, a love of jumping in puddles or shy eyes peeking out from behind your legs. Or their soft cheek buried in your neck when they need a cuddle.

The moments that make the sleepless nights all worth it is what I can capture for you. Mostly you’re so busy parenting or taking snaps yourselves that you forget to be in the photographs but these images I will create for you will become more and more valuable as life’s chapters fly past, the images that your children will show their children and grandchildren.

In a word, priceless.

We were thrilled with every aspect of our photo shoot, you really made all of us feel at ease and you achieved the natural photos we were hoping for, all in a perfect setting. Thank you for being so flexible and making us feel so welcome!

So what kind of family photography speaks to you?

i have two approaches:

Gemma has a remarkable ability to tease out the personality of even the most shy of children and record it on camera. There is an ethereal quality to her imagery that evokes a strong emotional reaction to each and every photograph.

Many of my clients choose their favourite images to hang on the walls on their home in either contemporary or traditional style frames. I work closely with one of the industry's leading frame makers to design and make handmade wall art that will perfectly complement the decor of your home. I have many sample frames in my studio to show you and can mockup layouts in different styles to help you choose, both single and multi-aperture (storyboard) frames. Frames start from £150.

Other clients prefer to have their images put together into a beautiful handmade album which can be handed down to future generations, creating a collection of albums that you can add to as your family grows. I create a bespoke design for your images to tell the story of your shoot and only use album makers that share the same meticulous attention to detail, creating a timeless album that will have have pride of place on your coffee table. Albums start from £400.

Other popular display choices include my print folio box, perfect for displaying smaller mounted images on the included easel or on mantelpieces or desktops. You can safely store the images not on display in the beautiful linen-bound keepsake box. Folio boxes start from £550.

Naturally digital images are always popular and I offer digital files suitable for printing, with packages starting from £350.

All my products and display options are available in my pricelist PDF, please get in touch to receive this by email.

How will your session work?

First chat

Drop me a line and let me know what ideas you have for a portrait session and we'll look for a suitable date in the diary. I only have a limited number of Saturday sessions and these get booked up often months in advance, so best to bear this in mind when looking at your calendar. Please note I don't work on Sundays. Upon booking your shoot I will ask for payment for the session fee or 50% of any package you have chosen.

Pre-shoot consultation

We'll touch base via Zoom or email a couple of weeks before the shoot to plan the finer details and say hello to the children I'll be photographing. This is an ideal opportunity to discuss styling ideas and clothing based on where we will do the shoot and I can let you know what to expect and bring on the day. If you're local, we'll also arrange a viewing date approximately 2 weeks after the shoot for you to come to the studio to view and order your images. If you are further afield I will put the images onto an online gallery for you to select from.

Day of the shoot

We'll spend two to three unhurried hours photographing either at the beginning of the day (when kids are at their most sparkly) or at the end of the day to catch the beautiful golden last light. I will direct you into the most flattering angles and light to show you at your best, but I steer clear of formal posing as this interrupts the natural flow of emotion and interaction that we're aiming to capture. There'll be a combination of group images, solo portraits but mostly you all as a family and your individual personalities shining through.

After the shoot

I will prepare the images from our shoot with care, selecting the best images to process ready for you to choose from at our viewing session or your online gallery. There will usually be around 50-70 images from a family session to choose from but this of course depends on what we captured on the day.

The viewing session

We will have booked a viewing session around 2 weeks after our shoot where I welcome you to the studio to view your lovely images and choose how to present them. You can see and feel the beautiful linen-bound albums and handmade bespoke frames and see layouts of how your favourite images would look on the walls of your home. This is the ideal time to place your order where I can answer all your questions and finalise choices in person. There is a 10% discount on all orders placed and paid for at the viewing session.

Once I have your final choices I will get everything underway with the industry-leading labs and frame makers I use. It usually takes 4-6 weeks from placing your order and I will happily hand deliver your products to local addresses or arrange a courier service if you are further afield for an additional charge.

If you're ready to find out more, do get in touch and we can chat about how you'd love me to photograph your family.  I look forward to hearing from you.
